Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Justice Sangam Kumar Sahu as Chief Justice of Patna High Court

In a significant development for the judiciary of Odisha, the Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the elevation of Justice Sangam Kumar Sahu, senior judge of the Odisha High Court, as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court. The recommendation has been forwarded to the Central Government for approval.

Justice Sahu, who hails from Cuttack, has built a distinguished legal career marked by integrity, legal scholarship, and impactful judgments. His elevation is being widely welcomed by members of the legal fraternity in Odisha.

Academic and Professional Journey

Justice Sahu completed his matriculation from Nuabazar High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Stewart Science College. He later pursued graduation in English and Odia from Utkal University, followed by a Law degree (LLB) from Dal Law College.

He was enrolled with the Odisha State Bar Council in 1989 and began his legal practice under the guidance of his father, late Nainat Sarat Chandra Sahu, a renowned criminal lawyer, and senior advocate Dr. Vinod Panda.

On July 2, 2014, Justice Sahu was appointed as a Judge of the Odisha High Court. Over the years, he has earned respect for delivering several important and well-reasoned judgments, leaving a lasting imprint on the judicial system.

Currently, Justice Sahu also serves as the Chairman of the High Court Legal Services Committee, playing a key role in strengthening access to justice for the underprivileged.
